The improvements include greater integration of ZB’s WalkAI — artificial intelligence that can predict which patients will have lower gait speed 90 days after hip or knee surgery.

Warsaw, Indiana–based Zimmer Biomet designed its ZBEdge Dynamic Intelligence platform to integrate its digital, robotic and implant technologies. It connects and collects objective data throughout the entire episode of care. The company aims for ZBEdge Dynamic Intelligence to transform data into insights. The goal is to elevate the standard of care.

Zimmer Biomet plans to unveil enhancements this week at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) 2023 Annual Meeting in Las Vegas.

Enhancements include updates for the MyMobility platform, Rosa Knee, Persona IQ and more.

“Nearly two years following its introduction, ZBEdge Dynamic Intelligence continues to deliver innovations with breakthrough technologies designed to enable smarter decision-making, more efficient care and optimized user experiences,” said Ivan Tornos, COO at Zimmer Biomet. “AAOS has always been a premier event to showcase to the orthopedic community the latest developments in our ZBEdge portfolio that harness the power of robotics, artificial intelligence, mixed reality and predictive data analytics to help surgeons transform patient outcomes.”

Zimmer Biomet said it added a handful of integration capabilities to the MyMobility platform. MyMobility offers support and guidance while capturing continuous data and patient-reported feedback. The digital care platform facilitates care, outcomes and satisfaction for surgical preparation and recovery.

MyMobility now features the integration of WalkAI recovery curves to help surgeons track recovery. It benchmarks patient gait metrics and provides predictions of their 90-day gait speed.

Additionally, WalkAI patient progress helps track and focus on recovery through a smartphone app. The integration of Zimmer Biomet’s Clinician Mobile Experience helps healthcare providers manage and track patients on the go.

For the Persona IQ smart knee implant, Zimmer Biomet integrated Canary Quantiles recovery curves. The company first announced this integration in December 2022. This offers surgeons cohort-comparative, post-operative gait parameters during patient monitoring and treatment post-surgery.

Finally, the Rosa Knee robot-assisted surgery system offers new improvements to both software and hardware. This includes enhancements for optimized landmarks, knee state evaluation, cut validation and data.

Rosa also has compatibility with the Persona OsseoTi keel tibia for cementless knee replacement. Zimmer Biomet said it integrated enhanced mixed reality to optimize intraoperative interaction with Rosa.
